Product Discovery

As this was a startup, may processes need to be twisted and bent to meet the fast pace of the project. The same was with our design team.

Our primary source of information were Stakeholder and Expert interviews, Excel sheets and initial logic diagrams made by CTO which we analyzed to proceed with wireframing. Even with all the material we had to annotate user flows just to make sure everything was clear down the product teams.

With C-level management, Tech Leads and scientists we had daily meetings in order to nail down the user journey with different roles

For Information architecture we utilized a Sitemap approach.

Wireframing and User Flow Exploration

Having a better picture of the product direction and domain knowledge, we proceeded to create sketches and wireframes to better present the future solution and predict potential UX pain points.

There was no need for a specific Framework/UI Kit for wireframing as the team was quick to understand every screen fully. Even Images of different applications were acceptable. On specific topics like Projects Dashboards we had multiple iterations until they were satisfactory from both the design and engineering perspective.

White-label solutions for different industries

The idea was to create a design system to scale to other industries. At first we had Agriculture and Health solutions in plan, while we had hints the solution would expand to other industries like Clothing.

This had us thinking ahead and before we started creating anything tangible we first had to figure out the architecture of the design system.

We created a Design System that supports multiple themes and base components, while for specific components based on different industries, we would create separate Components with a prefix Industry naming convention ( e.g. Health-Form, Agriculture-OnboardingForm ).

AI Driven Solution

The big part of the system is that a custom AI model would provide suggestions and future predictions based on data feed. This data entry presented a UX problem as there was a lot of data needed for the AI to work, however with talks with engineering and legal, we managed to skim some required data and offer the user to enter data later without significantly restricting him.

A wizard like solution was perfect for this data entry approach.

Projects & Programs

Additional details are needed for scientific and legal function on the Projects and Programs level, which was still a chore for users to enter but we introduced a collaboration segment where specialists from multiple fields cold come together and fill out the required data. Third party integration with Digital Twin on Agriculture project was another boon for users where they didn’t need to enter data twice.

This is a big section of the application and we spent a lot of time refining the UI and collecting feedback from QA and other members of the team to finalize the user flow.

Controls

Functional tweaking and adjusting was possible via the control section in the Project, while one again there is a lot of data to tweak, we have made an intuitive design with clear indicators what is changed or missing.

Marketplace and Programs Browser

UX and clarity around program browsing and marketplace for raw materials/products was essential for lifelong use and interactivity with the system. Having clear and scientific details around the program/product was the key to achieving sustainability enhancements. In some industries, like Health, a need for responsive adaptation of these screens was needed.
